I love Ink and Blood by Marco Kloos. I love the amazing amount of world-building he was able to do in such a short story, but mostly I love the simple and sweet love story made wonderful by the vivid and engaging characters. I find myself wanting to read about Wilhelm’s journey and find out if he makes it to the bridge!

I love More Full of Weeping Than You Can Understand by Rosamund Hodge. The story gave me a frisson of delight like waking up on a winter’s morning and finding the rosebush outside my window encased with glass. The magic and wonder of her words left me aching, looking over my shoulder for a glimmer of true magic in my concrete world.

  3. I’m crazy in love with the idea of steampunk and it’s hard to pick one of these stories that I like more than the others but if I had to … it would be ‘To the Gods of Time and Engines, a Gift’ by Dean Wells. I’ve read this one three or four times and find something new I like every time, but the way every word and sentence builds to create a cumulative effect of gothic horror really engrosses me. The author creates a vast and fascinating world even in the rather small scope of the tale, which had me wanting more. A lot of the imagery of this story is indelibly printed on my mind thanks to the author’s beautiful prose.
