So much fun, Charlie / Rae!!! Awesome to see your collaboration. A great job sucking me into the world of these people. Just the right balance of exotic without being confusing. You seem to keep a narrow focus on just what we need for the story, while hinting at a rich and complete fantasy world. Excellent job.
Looking forward muchly to the rest of the tale (which, in my mind, is the best and final judge of a story). Keep it up, dynamic duo. :-)

Thanks, Teddi, Matthew. I hope you guys enjoyed the second part of the story too.
If we co-author anything else we may just have to use "Team Finlay" as our byline.

Yes, I enjoyed both parts of the story. Not a big surprise that I would like it, though. I've read The Prodigal Troll, along with some stories you've had in Black Gate and Fantasy & Science Fiction, and I've never been disappointed.
Now I'll keep my eyes out for anything marked as Finlay - Team, Charles Coleman, or Rae Carson.

Glad you enjoyed it!
Sounds like you've read Charlie's Kukin & Vertir stories in F&SF--I love all three of those. I also highly recommend Rae's story "Fugue" in Weird Tales #345, under the byline Rae Dawn Carson--a very powerful tale of a prisoner in a dungeon.
