I thought this was phenomenally rich and complex. There were instances of rare wit, swaths of ornate description, and an intensely poetic, desire-driven internal conflict whose open resolution left me staring off into space for a good long while as I tried to come to grips with all I had just seen. My kind of story. Very inspiring. I will be looking out for Mr. Surridge's name.

A very nice story indeed. though I can't say that I understood all of it. But I was entranced by the depth of the creation, the verisimilitude of the setting, and the wonderful language. A delightful read.

To boonofdoom: Matthew Surridge is going to have another story out shortly in Black Gate #14, so if you like his style, you may want to keep an eye out for that.

Awesome--I knew he had a Black Gate story forthcoming, but I did not know that it had yet been slated for a specific issue. I look forward to that one.

Thank you for this story. I appreciate anything with that much E.T.A. Hoffmann in it.
