Realms of Fantasy, which was shut down by their publishing company less than two months ago, have been bought by new ownership (http://sfscope.com/2009/03/realms-of-fantasy-is-not-closi.html) and will resume publishing.

I'm glad to hear that Realms will be revived, but the new publisher, Warren Lapine, has a checkered history in the SF/F magazine field due to some management troubles that affected a number of magazines he ran under the company DNA Publications. Hopefully those troubles will not crop up again, and Realms will continue for many years to come.

I, too, and somewhat leery about Lapine taking over Realms. His track record with DNA Publications is spotty at best. He still owes me and many other writers money.

Still, I have also heard he's better financed now and I hope he's learned some things since he held the reins at DNA.

But, yeah, he's going to have to prove it to me.

So according to the blog (http://slushmaster.livejournal.com/156704.html) of their slush reader, stories that were in the slushpile at the time Realms closed are still in their slushpile and will be responded to in due course. I had a story there that I was going to submit elsewhere, but didn't get around to it, so my laziness has paid off!

(I mean, I don't really expect them to buy it, but at least this way I don't feel like I wasted the postage.)

Huh, I had heard all those stories were released when Realms went under. It doesn't affect me because I haven't sent the story they had out again yet, but some people might have.

I think it'll be smart to email them and inquire as to the status of our stories. I"m going to do that, and if they do still have my story I'll let them know I haven't sim subbed it anywhere. I'm just thinking they might want to know that.

That's a good idea. I think I'll do so as well.
