I'm way out of the loop on movies this year. I know Solomon Kane is supposed to come out, but are there any other fantasy movies coming out this year that I should be looking forward to?

I think I'm even further out of the loop on movies. I remember hearing about the Solomon Kane movie, but I don't know when it's scheduled to be released. There is a new Conan movie in development, but I don't think they're anywhere close to starting shooting.

The one fantasy movie I'm really looking forward to is Guillermo Del Toro directing the Peter Jackson-produced movie of The Hobbit, shot in New Zealand where they made LOTR. But I don't think it's started shooting yet, and with all the CG special effects, it probably won't be in theaters until 2011 at least.

The fantasy "movie" event of the year may be the pilot that HBO is shooting for George RR Martin's A Game of Thrones. If HBO picks the show up, there would be a whole season of episodes to cover that one book. With all that running time, about 15-20 hours, they might actually be able to cover most of what's in the book! :)

That sounds awesome. I am barely able to restrain my undignified fangirl-ish squealing.

It's been confirmed that they're filming the pilot. More pressure on George to finish the series. :)

Rome was one of the best series I've ever seen, so I'm glad it's HBO taking this one. They have the best production these days, in my opinion.
