Great use of language, great imagery. Usually when writers take risks with language some clunkers result, but none in this piece (maybe the ozone/tar simile, and I think "selfless" means unselfish, not having no sense of self). Good job of concisely creating a fantastical world. Most of us struggle with that. Unpredicable, too. All in all, just a great job. Really great.
