The Ham-Sized Fist Award (http://hamsizedfist.blogspot.com/2009/06/cry-havoc.html) is a new independent award being given for sword & sorcery short fiction. (The name of the award comes from that titan of S&S, Robert E. Howard, and a phrase that he once wrote to describe Conan's fist. :) )
This interview in Fantasy Magazine (http://www.darkfantasy.org/fantasy/?p=4454) with the award's creator and sponsor Jeff Crooks lays out his vision for the award and his admiration for S&S fiction. I think it's great that Jeff has founded this award as a way to recognize a rather unrecognized subgenre of fantasy.
One story from Beneath Ceaseless Skies has already been nominated (http://hamsizedfist.blogspot.com/2009/07/nominated-stories.html)--"The Land of Empty Shells" (http://www.beneath-ceaseless-skies.com/story.php?s=34) by Caroline M. Yoachim, from BCS #20. The nomination procedures are listed here (http://hamsizedfist.blogspot.com/2009/06/nominate-story.html) if you would like to nominate your favorite story, from BCS or any other S&S venue.
May the best story see its enemies driven before it in battle!
