I enjoy baroque universes. The worldbuilding is incredibly rich. I hope this story belongs to a cycle. I want more.

Very glad you liked it!

This story is part of a cycle-in-progress, if that's the right description. Ms. Brennan has had one previous story in this world published by InterGalactic Medicine Show, and I think she is planning to write more stories. She explains a bit about it in this post on her blog.

I too would love to read more in this world, so I hope this story is the first of many.

"...I drank myself into a stupor. If you want to solve problems, that’s a ****ty way to do it, but if you want to wallow in your misery, drinking’s the way to go."

I loved this line. So true, so appropriate to my life right now.
