Marie Brennan, whose story “Driftwood” appeared in BCS #14 and was Audio Fiction Podcast 013, has posted on her website a free novella set in the world of her recent Onyx Court fantasy novels.

“Deeds of Men” takes place between Midnight Never Come (2008) and In Ashes Lie (forthcoming in June). It’s a murder mystery set at the end of James I’s reign and the beginning of Charles I’s — 1621-1625. Ms. Brennan says “You don’t need to have read either novel for this story, but be warned that it does (unavoidably) contain some spoilers for Midnight Never Come.”
