All four stories in BCS #46 and #47 got a great review from Lois Tilton, the short fiction reviewer for Locus online. She gave the entire month of July from BCS her “Recommended” rating.
“The Six Skills of Madame Lumiere” by Marissa Lingen: “The narrative voice is fresh, the Rust Lords make an interesting addition to the usual fairy cast, and there is some nice fantasy scenery.”
“The Isthmus Variation” by Kris Millering: “What is truly fantastic is the meticulously crafted, highly mannered setting and the details of the Slow Game (theatrical performance) itself.”
“The Territorialist” by Yoon Ha Lee: “A powerful imaginative creation, with a strong narrative voice as a foil that makes the intensely oppressive atmosphere bearable, increasing its interest.”
“Throwing Stones” by Mishell Baker: “a lovely fantasy, mannered and sensuous. There is also a subtle subtext about the nature of gender roles that rouses echoes of our own culture.”
Well-done to all these authors! If you haven’t checked out these stories, you definitely should.
