Beneath Ceaseless Skies | <i>BCS</i> Podcast #100 and Saladin Ahmed Audio Book Giveaway

The March 21 BCS Audio Fiction Podcast episode, “Boat in Shadows, Crossing” by Tori Truslow, is our 100th episode!

To celebrate this milestone of our Parsec Award-finalist podcast, in addition to the special reading for episode 100, we will be giving away two copies of the audiobook of BCS author Saladin Ahmed‘s fantasy novel Throne of the Crescent Moon.

One giveaway will be held next Wednesday Mar. 27 on the BCS Twitter feed @BCSmagazine, details to come.

My favorite BCS podcast episode if BCS 86 "The Three Feats of Agani". The reason is that it's one of the best stories I've heard in years--I nominated it for the Nebula and the Hugo.

I don't know why it's stuck with me the longest, but the Stephen Case " Read This Quickly, For You Will Only Have a Moment…" is my vote today. In the archive it's listed as Issue 85, December 2011. I feel bad voting for just one, though, because you folks do incredible work. This is one of my favorite zines of any format on the internet.

My favorite is “Bakemono, or The Thing That Changes” by A.B. Treadwell, in Issue #116. I think the characters are really well built up in the short space used so you can imagine there's more of the story ready to come out. Bakemono was a close tie with Worth of Crows which is well written and an interesting story.

BCS 080: Bearslayer and the Black Knight By Tom Crosshill I really enjoyed this one due to the action and visceral descriptions.

Maybe posting a recent favorite seems like I haven't listened to many episodes, but I've been with the podcast for about a year I think... Anyway, my most recent fave is BCS 099: Bakemono, or The Thing That Changes. It has a lot of realistic humanity to it that is often lacking from similar adventure fantasy. I also liked how the speculative element was introduced and then continuously downplayed, in favor of drama.

My favorite is "BCS 039: Mister Hadj’s Sunset Ride, by Saladin Ahmed." Why? Well, it was the very first episode I ever heard, and I looked it up shortly after Saladin and I met a few years ago. As a consequence, the story — and the performance — lodged itself in my memories. My favorite BCS story would be a close fight between the recent Bakemono by A.B Treadwell and Luckfish by Peeta Freestone. Both stories were fascinating and beautiful and since I listened to them just before bed, I even dreamed of the worlds described in them. A close second is Kingspeaker by Marie Brennan which was the first BSC podcast I listened to.
