Gemma Files, author of the weird west Hexslinger novels, makes her first appearance in BCS with “Two Captains,” a nautical-setting tale featuring characters who have appeared in other of her short fiction, including her story in the Clockwork Phoenix 4 anthology.

Sylvia Linsteadt offers “Else This, Nothing Ever Grows,” a character’s journey through relationships with magical and mythical beings in a strange Pacific Coast wilderness.
