Beneath Ceaseless Skies | Bradley P. Beaulieu <i>Twelve Kings in Sharakhai</i> Signed Novel Giveaway

BCS author Bradley P. Beaulieu’s new fantasy novel Twelve Kings in Sharakhai, out on Sept. 1, was inspired by his two-part BCS story “From the Spices of Sanandira” in BCS #70 and #71.

BCS is giving away two pre-release copies of Twelve Kings in Sharakhai, initialed by Brad in gorgeous calligraphy.

One giveaway will be held next week on the BCS Twitter feed @BCSmagazine, on Tuesday Aug. 25.

The other giveaway is right here in this post. To enter, comment on this post and tell us your favorite BCS story set in a desert setting; set in any locale that has aspects of a desert. (For the Full Rules, click on ‘Show Hidden Text’ at the end of this post.) That will enter you in a random drawing for the book. This giveaway ends Wed. Aug. 26, so enter soon!

You must leave your comment on this Twelve Kings in Sharakhai Giveaway post. Comments left anywhere else will not enter you in the giveaway.

You must mention a story published in BCS that is set in some locale that arguably contains features of desert. Comments that do not mention a story published in BCS that is set in some locale arguably desert will not enter you in the giveaway.

You must post your comment before midnight PST on Wed. Aug. 26. Any comments posted after that will not be eligible.

Each person will be entered only once in the random drawing (even if you leave more than one eligible comment).

I love Bradley Beaulieu's writing, have all his books so far and would be thrilled to win a copy of 'Twelve Kings in Sharakhai' with its Arabian Nights inflected setting. Backgrounds of that ilk are my favorite, irresistable! So of course Saladin Ahmed's 'Where Virtue Lives' is my favorite yarn of the sample list. I have all of Mr. Ahmed's work in my collection too. His characters Adoulla and Raseed are delightful and his detailed milieu feels perfect. Please help me sail away on a Sand Ship (how cool is that idea)! Love me some desert stories. Kay Chronister's "The Warriors, the Mothers, the Drowned"--which I heard first in the podcast, and then dug up to read--is certainly one of my favorites, as is Erin Cashier's weird western, "Hangman." I appreciate this opportunity. Keep up the excellent fiction. Ben DeVries

This book looks amazing. I missed another giveaway for this on another site, so I'm glad I have a second chance. One of my favorites from BCS with a desert setting is "Mister Hadj’s Sunset Ride" by Saladin Ahmed.

My favorite BCS story set in a desert is "The Angel Azrael Rode into the Town of Burnt Church on a Dead Horse". Probably because it was one of the first BCS stories I ever read, it holds a peculiar fondness to me. I'm looking forward to reading TWELVE KINGS IN SHARAKHAI, which will happen much sooner if I win a copy. Thanks.

Not that much in the desert (although the setting is surrounded by it), but the atmosphere of dust and loneliness can be sensed throughout the story: "The King in the Cathedral" by Rich Larson. A truly hilarious take on heroism.

Hmm... it's a toss up between Kay Chronister’s “The Warriors, the Mothers, the Drowned” and Saladin Ahmed's "Mister Hadj’s Sunset Ride".

It's a toughie, but Adam Callaway's "Sate My Thirst with Ink and Blood" won out the edge on me. Definitely one of the first desert-based stories that I loved and had me drinking a ton of water while reading it. If a story can do that to you it's powerful! So I'd definitely love to win this book! Thank you!
